“Can OBS record in MP4? I have noticed that the video recordings made with OBS are stored in MKV format by default. But I want to create screen recordings in MP4 format. Is it possible?”

Yes, OBS can record in MP4. Although it records videos in MKV by default, it supports multiple video formats, including MKV, FLV, MOV, MP4, and TS. You can make OBS record in MP4 by changing the output option in Settings:

Step 1. Open OBS Studio and go to Settings.

Step 2. Head to Output > Recording.

Step 3. Select MPEG-4 (.mp4) as the Recording Format.

Via these settings, you can make OBS record in MP4 automatically. Even if you have recorded videos in other formats, you can use the Remux Recordings feature to convert the videos to MP4. You can access this option in Settings > Remux Recordings.

It’s easy to record videos in your preferred format by changing settings. However, MP4 is not the video format best suited to OBS Studio. Instead, MKV is the best format for OBS recording.

Of course, you can record videos in any format you need with an OBS alternative, such as SurFlex Screen Recorder. This tool offers MP4, FLV, MOV, MKV, and AVI formats and allows you to customize output settings according to your preferences before the video recording.
